Explode Your Traffic

Explode your traffic to grow your online business

People who want to run an online business know full well that to do it they’ll need a website. No brainer right? Well, it should be a no brainer, but not everyone gets it.

So, they’ll build a website (or have one built for them by an agency). They’ll do their ‘About’ page and their ‘Contact’ page, their ‘Services’ page and their ‘Staff’ page. Then they stop. They don’t add to their website. This is usually because they skimped on the cost when they had their website built and didn’t ask the developer for the ability to contribute to their site without  having to ask the developer to do it.

Google will eventually come along and index their website and they’ll get a ranking. If the SEO is really good, they might get a listing on page one or two of Google. With new websites, that is extremely rare, unless the niche is tiny and uncompetitive. There it stops.

The website draws traffic, but it soon reaches a threshold and plateaus. There is no growth in website traffic because the website becomes static and isn’t growing at all. The website then starts to sink in the rankings. The owner then gets frustrated and accuses the website builder of not doing their job properly. In reality, Google downgrades the site because it isn’t dynamic enough. There is little interaction and none of the pages have changed for months.

What the business owner tends not to usually do is add a blog to their website. Why do they not do that? Well, because it takes time, and they don’t have that time. Because they don’t add a blog, their web asset doesn’t grow (in fact it shrinks) and their online reach and ranking doesn’t improve at all from where it is now. Then what happens next is they start to blame the agency that built the site.

To Explode Your Traffic, You must add a blog and post regularly

If your business is vibrant and you have a lot to offer, you should be bristling with enthusiasm to tell the World about you business, your innovation, your products. What is your USP that sets you apart from the rest? A blog is the perfect way to do this, but it’s either neglected or ignored altogether.

When the website is set up, either by yourself or by an agency, you should always ask for a login so you can contribute and update your site.

If you get an agency to build your website for you, find out if they’re using WordPress. This is pretty much the industry standard and is almost infinitely configurable. If they aren’t, use someone who will.

Explode your Traffic - use wordpress for your blog

Please, please, PLEASE. Add a blog to your website and post regularly to it.

Here’s why.

Let’s assume your website, without a blog, gets 10 visitors per day. That is roughly 300 visitors per month, but there is little interaction with your site. We’ll call this the base level of traffic. Ground zero traffic in fact.

So, let’s then imagine you have had the foresight to start a blog and post to it once each day. That’s 30 posts per month and 365 posts per year. Let’s assume that each one of those posts generates only five views per day. In month one, you’ve added 150 to the traffic count. Instead of 300 visitors per month, you’re now getting 450. By the end of 12 months, you’ll be getting:

300 + (365 x 5) = 2,125 views per day.

Your traffic will have increased by more than 600%

That then becomes very significant traffic because with this amount you’ll see that Google will begin to take you seriously and you can start to monetize your site. You shouldn’t even attempt to monetise your site before you’ve built decent traffic because, well you’ll be disappointed, be discouraged and will get knocked back.

Build the traffic first. It might take 2-3 months for a brand new site to start getting traffic that is usable. You must be patient. Posting more to your site will eventually Explode Your Traffic!

Ideas for Monetizing your site

Google Adsense

Google Adsense is part of an advertising system run by Google. Google allow people to place adverts through it’s Google Adwords system. This enables them to appear at the top of Google’s own search pages for the chosen keyword.

As well as Google’s search pages, Google allows publishers (website owners) to also display this advertising on their own website. It requires installing a small snippet of code on the website. After a couple of hours, adverts will start to appear and any clicks on those ads will result in Google rewarding you with a commission. The amount of the commission will depend on the amount the advertiser has paid Google for the advert themselves.

Google Adsense can provide a steady income to your site, but only if you have substantial traffic. However, when you are just getting started, seeing even a trickle of income is encouraging.

Start an e-commerce store

If you are in the business of selling stuff, then setting up an online store is the obvious choice to expand things for you. You can sell either physical items or digital ones.

Physical items will need to go through the order, package, delivery process, but you can also sell digital items through a store and have them delivered by email, as a PDF or computer file. This is the type of product that makes people a lot of money very quickly if you can hit the right niche.

Clickbank regularly sell this type of product.

Affiliate links

Affiliate links are links in your posts that refer your visitors to an external product being sold by someone else. The links usually contain a special tag that identifies the link and means that any product that is bought after clicking the link will result in you earning a commission.

Affiliate Marketing is really all about matching people with products they are searching for. Affiliate Marketing doesn’t ‘sell’ people things in the conventional sense, it helps them solve their problems and fulfil their needs by producing a review or a recommendation for them.

Depending on your niche, you can earn a substantial income by doing this. The trick is to position yourself as an expert in that niche, resulting in trust being built.

Train yourself for the best results

Affiliate Marketing, done well, is a skill that not everyone has, but the good news is that it can be learned. Online training is available to take you from a complete newbie who is just experiencing the term for the first time, to an expert marketer with all the secrets.

Have a read of the rest of this blog to get an idea how it all works. You’ll soon see i’m very enthusiastic about it. I’m also passionate to teach others that they can do this too.
